Jan Rajlich, designer and teacher from the FME, succeeded at the 29th International Poster Biennial in Warsaw. Not only was his poster selected from six and a half thousand entries among only three hundred that appeared at the prestigious exhibition. His work "Fractals" was even awarded a bronze medal by the expert jury.
"Colourful, delicate lines tell the story of life and death with tenderness. A poetic journey through human experience." This is how the expert jury evaluated the poster "Fractals", which Jan Rajlich created at the beginning of this year for an exhibition event at Gallery 13 – Zadní trakt in Brno. On 5 July in Warsaw, the designer and teacher from the Department of Industrial Design took third place in the main competition of this oldest and most prestigious poster show in the world. This year, 6,666 posters from 38 countries were entered, and 309 were selected for the exhibition.
"The Poster Biennale in Warsaw has been held since 1966. We often went there since the 1960s, even with my father, Jan Rajlich Sr., and it was always a great feast just when he or later I got a poster accepted for the exhibition," Rajlich recalls. "I first exhibited a Habitat poster design in Warsaw in 1976. Now, after almost 50 years, I have received an award in Warsaw for the first time, which is a really big surprise and success for me. The relatively young jury chose my poster, even though I just turned 75 a month ago," Rajlich, who has been working on his own posters from time to time but still enjoys it, is delighted. "And I'm glad to see that it has some value not only for me, but also for my surroundings," he concludes.
