English in Aviation

The course makes the students acquainted with the vocabulary concerning aeronautics and aviation.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and communication ability in common English B2.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

To receive credit for this course students have to obtain at least 40 points by the end of the semester. Points can be obtained for attendance (5 points), presentation in class (up to 45 points) and credit test, which takes place in the 13th week of the semester (up to 60 points). Should students fail to reach at least 40 points at the end of the semester, they can resit the credit test during the exam period.

Aims

The aim is to familiarize the students with the terminology of aeronautics and aircraft in such an extent that enables them to apply their knowledge in practice. Another goal is to enrich their knowledge and improve their communication ability in common language. The course enables the students to learn about atmosphere, forces acting upon the aircraft, about main parts of the aircraft, about its engine and instrument equipment. The students can also improve their communication ability in common English.
