Original abstract
SOLFIE addresses the design, implementation and demonstration of a new class of hydropower generation technology. The basic principle is to produce a wave motion onto a continuous flow and extract power from the now pulsating flow with a Power take off (PTO) unit. This is effectively achieved by having both the hydraulic system and a mechanical excitation mechanism in a lock-in resonance condition that maximises and optimises renewable energy transfer to electricity.
