Original abstract
The paper deals with CFD simulations of a reinforced exhaust system (Aaberg exhaust hood in particular). The hood makes use of a radial jet to amplify polluted air extraction from a space in front of a hood. The use of a radial jet leads to a directional flow pattern. This flow pattern is beneficial if the pollution is generated inside the efficient region of the hood where it can be captured. In case of the non-isothermal pollution generated, the hood has to be orientated according to the pollution release direction. The effects of gravity are investigated on various cases to account for geometrical arrangement. Recently, it has been found out that the Aaberg hood performance depends distinctly on the presence of obstacles, such as a workbench, close to the hood. Therefore, a specific setup was chosen so the hood's performance is not deteriorated. The results are also compared with the traditional flanged hood.
