Stabilizátor teploty řeší nestabilitu teploty výfukových plynů vozidlových spalovacích motorů. Její výkyvy mají značný dopad na funkci emisního systému, jejichž účinnost je silně závislá na teplotě výfukových plynů. Ta se v závislosti na různých podmínkách provozu motoru (změna otáček a zatížení motoru) značně mění. Pro stabilizaci teploty je využito zásobníku tepla, kde jako akumulační médium je využito materiálu se změnou skupenství (zkráceně PCM). Ty dokáží v průběhu změny skupenství do sebe ukládat/vydávat velké množství tepelné energie z/do výfukových plynů. Stabilizátor tak udržuje hodnotu teploty výfukových plynů nad hranicí, kdy je dosaženo alespoň 50% účinnosti emisního systému. Díky tomu je dosaženo snížení produkovaných škodlivých emisí do ovzduší.

The temperature stabilizer solves the instability of the exhaust gas temperature of vehicle internal combustion engines. Its fluctuations have a significant impact on the function of the emission system, the efficiency of which is strongly dependent on the exhaust gas temperature. This varies considerably depending on the various engine operating conditions (change in engine speed and load). To stabilise the temperature, a heat reservoir is used where a phase change material (abbreviated PCM) is used as the storage medium. These can store/emit large amounts of thermal energy to/from the exhaust gases during the change of state. The stabilizer thus maintains the exhaust gas temperature above the limit where at least 50% of the emission system efficiency is achieved. As a result, a reduction in the harmful air emissions produced is achieved.
