Pro detailní analýzu existuje několik metod např.: What-If, FMEA nebo HAZOP. Metoda HAZOP „Hazard and Operability Study“ byla vyvinutá odborníky z ICI – Petrochemical division právě pro systematickou a pečlivou analýzu bezpečnosti složitého procesního zařízení.
