Original abstract
The aim of the research was to define noise levels produced by two chainsaw types (petrol and battery-powered) while cross-cutting six different types of tree species, and to specify whether the noise level values differ in the tree species. Another goal was to reveal which of the two types of chainsaws represents a greater noise exposure for the operator (in terms of noise) and how much the noise levels produced by the saws differ. Two chainsaws with different drives and nearly identical performance were chosen for the research. Timber was cut at all times by one person with one type of saw bar and one type of saw chain. The tree species had similar log diameters (difference +/- 3 cm) and their wood moisture content ranged from 26.1-37.5%. The noise level was measured near the chainsaw operator's ear using an instrument certified for the stated measurement and according to standard EN ISO 9612. Research results showed that the highest noise level was reached when cutting linden with the petrol chainsaw (109.2500 dB).
