Original abstract

The time and cost pressures placed on the modern product engineering and development market demands rapid analysis, advanced development capabilities and high levels of precision. Where mechanical items were traditionally verified through empirical testing, today tools such as FEA, MBS, EHD or CFD are in commonly used. The key to success is the flexibility of refining the method for support work or troubleshooting scenarios from the early project concept phase. This paper deals with a camshaft vibration modeling in multi-body system employing flexible bodies of main components. Interactions between an engine block and the camshaft are solved via a hydrodynamic bearing model including journal tiltings. A cranktrain has great influence on camshaft vibrations and is together with a geartrain model included into a valvetrain computational model. All simulation strategies are presented on diesel four-cylinder in-line engine.
