Original abstract
The method for aerodynamic design and optimization of single slotted flap is presented. As a tool for preliminary design of flap shape a panel method is used. The flap position in the landing configuration is optimized. The Nelder-Mead simplex method is used as optimization algorithm. The aerodynamic performance is predicted using commercial CFD software Fluent 6. The design/optimization approach is first validated by calculation of NACA 23012 airfoil with single slotted flap and by comparing with experimental investigation. Results show the appropriateness of the approach for design and optimization of single slotted flap.
