Original abstract
Alumina ceramics were prepared by injection moulding of mixtures of 63 vol% of alumina powders and 37 vol% of thermoplastic binder. The mixture of paraffin wax and ethylene-vinylacetate copolymer was used as thermoplastic binder. Several types of alumina powders were tested. Debinding and sintering of alumina ceramics were made in the air atmosphere. The physical and mechanical properties of the ceramics – bulk density, shrinkage, bending strength, fracture toughness and microstructure – were studied. The relations between properties of the alumina powders, parameters of injection moulding process and properties of the alumina ceramics were discussed. The alumina bioceramics prepared by powder injection moulding process were found suitable for dental application.
