Original abstract

Here we report on the recent progress in the application of LIBS technique for in-field archaeology and restoration. Because one of the expected applications of the developed remote-LIBS setup is the study of historical wall segments, in this work we focused on a comparative analysis of brick samples. Brick masonry constitutes a significant part of the construction materials found in historic buildings. The level of decay in bricks differs widely, in many cases requiring partial replacements. The selection of compatible materials for the replacement of original bricks is crucial in order to avoid damage to the historical structure.
