Original abstract

The book consists of five parts. Part I (the first half of the book) contains all necessary theorems from the theory of Sobolev spaces which are needed in the theory of the finite element method. The proofs of these theorems are written in a minute, circumstantial and readable way. Parts III and V concerning variational problems in domains with cusp-points and semiregular finite elements, respectively, are published in a book form for the first time. Parts II and IV devoted to basic applications of Sobolev spaces in the finite element method and parabolic-elliptic variational problems, respectively, complete the monograph into a comprehensive work.
