Original abstract

In this paper a method for 3D ultrasound volume filtering is described. A 3D separable discrete wavelet transform is used for decomposition into the space – frequency domain and the thresholding is applied. Then an inverse 3D wavelet transform is used and the filtered volume is obtained. For many post-processing algorithms, e.g. segmentation, it is useful to have signal with a lower level of noise. In non-linear wavelet filtering sharp edges are almost fully preserved while noise can be well suppressed.
