Syllabus
The study of comprehensive knowledge of the fundamentals of management theory and its various interpretations. The core of the course is an introduction to the individual functions of management: planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Each function is explained in detail. Attention will also be paid to contemporary approaches applied in the practice of organizations, such as network organization, international management and corporate governance.
1.The nature, purpose and practice of management. Definition of management, managerial work. The importance of management in practice, reasons for studying management.
2.Development trends in management. Introduction of management schools influencing the development of management. Presentation of different concepts of management development.
3.Environment of management. External environment and internal environment. Implications for managerial decisions. SWOT analysis. The nature of the environment affecting the management of the organisation.
4.Vision, mission and objectives of the organisation. Basic assumptions for setting the organization's mission and goals. Types of objectives, hierarchical breakdown, time breakdown. Conflict of objectives.
5.Planning, definition, hierarchical and time division. Complex planning system in the organization. Control – definition, concepts. Standards of control. Control process and requirements for its efficiency and effectiveness. Types of controls. Audit with a focus on management audit.
6.Organizing – definition, concepts. Contingency approach to the development of organizational structure. Aspects of horizontal and vertical differentiation of structure formation. Integration and types of organizational structures. Management span, centralization and decentralization of management. Competence in organisational design.
7.Motivation and leadership in the organization. Communication. Definition of concepts, theoretical approaches. Content and process motivation theories. Leadership styles theory, managerial grid and situational theories.
8.Decision making in management – organizational hierarchy for decision making. Well and ill structured problems. Steps in the decision making process. Types of decisions.
9.Internal and external organizational networks. Business network organizational structures, Ameba, Franchising, Fractal organization. Holding organizational structures, types of holding organizational structures, characteristics and features of holding companies.
10. International Management – Internationalization, entry into foreign markets.
11. International Management – Organizational forms of Internationalization, Multinational Companies, Expatriation – International H.R. activities.
12. Corporate Governance, Ownership-management linkage, governance models, approaches of application to a specific example, CSR
