This research deals with the shape and strength of boom extensions intended for attaching the harvester head to the excavator. In order to achieve quality results, a dynamic analysis of felling activity was performed in MSC ADAMS, in which a tree with a volume of 1.99 m3 was felled. From the analysis, three load cases were obtained in x-, y- and z-axes. In the axes, the maximum value of the force reached 14,541 N (x-axis), −76394 N (y-axis) and 888,054 N (z-axis). In addition, three structural design solutions of extensions labeled A, B and C were created, which were subjected to strength analysis using the finite element method in MSC APEX. The allowable stress was not exceeded in any of the designs. A maximum reduced stress of 169 MPa was achieved for design A, 193 MPa for design B and 211 MPa for design C. Overall, it was possible to state that the shape of the extension has an effect on its strength. Furthermore, all three construction designs of extensions were compared with each other using a multi-criteria analysis. Option A was evaluated as the best solution and option B as the worst.
