The efficient use of energy is a prerequisite for mankind’s sustainable development, and it is impossible without fundamental knowledge in thermal science and engineering. It enables a reduction of energy consumption in process industries and the communal sector through an improvement of heat transfer equipment, reduction of thermal losses, and recuperating of heat energy obtained from traditional and renewable sources, employing energy storage and carbon dioxide mitigation for better protection of the environment. The conference series “Process Integration, Modelling and Optimisation for Energy Saving and Pollution Reduction – PRES” aimed at solving all these problems in multidisciplinary ways. It has resulted in a platform for the fruitful exchange of ideas, knowledge and experience. After the first conference in 1998 in Prague, it was held in many other places, including Hungary, Italy, Canada, China, Malaysia and the Czech Republic, over the last 26 years.
