This study presents a laboratory methodology for evaluating materials used to restore adhesion in the wheel–rail contact under low adhesion conditions. Maple leaves in various states were used to simulate realistic autumn conditions, with soaked fresh leaves identified as the most suitable for inducing low and stable adhesion. The effectiveness of two types of silica sand was assessed, with the finer variant performing better due to more uniform layer formation. The proposed methodology provides a repeatable and representative approach for testing adhesion restoration materials under contact conditions closely resembling those on real tracks.
