[popis] => With increasing complexity of aircraft structures and demands for safety, structural health monitoring (SHM) systems are a frequently considered option to lower the cost and time consumption of aircraft maintenance. Recent advances in additive manufacturing techniques have enabled the fabrication of structures with artificially designed mechanical properties and the possibility to integrate smart materials directly into the structure. In this paper, we propose an innovative metamaterial structure with embedded piezoelectric transducers. The results show that the magnitude of the force applied to the structure can be determined from the electrical response of the transducers. A power of 5.9 mW was generated on a 400 kΩ resistive load at an applied force of 11 N. The test sample shows the potential of the proposed structure for design of artificial structures and SHM systems in aerospace industry.

[nazev_en] => Modern approaches in diagnostics of technical systems
[popis_en] => Nowadays, the industry is digitizing and automating most processes. One of the areas of digitalization is also the diagnostics of various technical systems, especially machines. For this purpose, modern approaches are now being used, which include on-line diagnostics of these devices. The main idea behind the introduction of on-line diagnostic systems is also the permanent monitoring of the condition of the equipment and the possible effective planning of maintenance or the detection of the exact fault of the machine in a short period of time. The possible approach to the solution varies, a promising one is to use the hardware of the own control systems, e.g. programmable logic controllers (PLCs) of the monitored object, to acquire the data and to evaluate it with suitable software. The present paper introduces the possibility of applying the CMS X-Tools analysis software from Siemens. This has been used at our workplace for vibration monitoring, specifically the determination of a fault on a damaged bearing is described in the paper.

[popis] => The importance of gene expression regulation in viruses based upon G-quadruplex may point to its potential utilization in therapeutic targeting. Here, we present analyses as to the occurrence of putative G-quadruplex-forming sequences (PQS) in all reference viral dsDNA genomes and evaluate their dependence on PQS occurrence in host organisms using the G4Hunter tool. PQS frequencies differ across host taxa without regard to GC content. The overlay of PQS with annotated regions reveals the localization of PQS in specific regions. While abundance in some, such as repeat regions, is shared by all groups, others are unique. There is abundance within introns of Eukaryota-infecting viruses, but depletion of PQS in introns of bacteria-infecting viruses. We reveal a significant positive correlation between PQS frequencies in dsDNA viruses and corresponding hosts from archaea, bacteria, and eukaryotes. A strong relationship between PQS in a virus and its host indicates their close coevolution and evolutionarily reciprocal mimicking of genome organization.

[nazev_en] => Tracing dsDNA Virus-Host Coevolution through Correlation of Their G-Quadruplex-Forming Sequences
[popis_en] => The importance of gene expression regulation in viruses based upon G-quadruplex may point to its potential utilization in therapeutic targeting.

[popis] => 2,4-D is a broadly used auxin herbicide. The presence of the 2,4-D synthetic auxin in the medium is imperative for long-term BY-2 tobacco suspension viability. The precise mechanism of this symbiosis of the suspension and the synthetic auxin remains unclear.
Our goal was to study the hormonal regulation of the growth of the cell suspension; and to describe the experiments clarifying the interaction between the chosen growth regulators and phytohormones on the cellular level, specifically between the 2,4-D synthetic auxin and the native stress phytohormone — ethylene. This study examined the influence of low 2,4-D concentrations stimulating cell growth in vitro as well as the influence of high herbicide concentrations on the model tobacco BY-2 suspension. The culture took 6 days. Different parameters were evaluated, including the influence of different 2,4-D concentrations on the production of the phytohormone ethylene and its precursor 1-Aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) in the tobacco cells. The content of 2,4-D in the cells and the medium was established. The observations of the morphological changes showed that a heavy impregnation of the cell walls taking place depending on the concentration of 2,4-D. A dramatic increase in protective polysaccharides and a remodulation of the cell walls by the formation of a pectin shield in artificial conditions were expected and observed. At the same time, massive production of the stress phytohormone ethylene took place, and, because of that, plant mutagenicity, anomalous tumour-type proliferation growth, and the production of supercells were observed. The hypothesis of the protective shield is discussed.

[popis] => Grinding is a conventional technological operation necessary for the manufacturing of mechanical parts of precise shapes and sizes with high demands on surface roughness. The machining is done with a tool with an undefined cutting-edge geometry composed of individual hard grains which are connected by a binder. Small cross-section chips form during machining with the grains. These chips undergo great plastic deformations and suffer a heating of such magnitude due to the inner and outer friction that it causes melting and a subsequent forming of a metal ball. The goal of this study is to analyse these balls – chips after grinding, formed during the machining of D2 tool steel with an Al2O3 grinding wheel. 4 types of balls were found and examined. A focused ion beam was employed to sputter a part which allowed the study of their inner area. An analysis of the chemical content was carried out both on the outside and the inside of the ball. The carried-out analysis led to the discovery of two new types of balls that form after grinding. The analysis brought new findings about the types of chips after grinding and, as such, this study will contribute to a more thorough understanding of the grinding process.

[popis] => Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is an unconventional machining technology which is widely used in all industries. Due to the increased energy demand of WEDM, there is an effort to reduce machining times and thus maximise the material removal rate (MRR). Thus, this study aimed to perform the design of experiment to study the effect of WEDM machining parameters on the resulting MRR, topography, morphology, and subsurface condition of the produced samples. The materials investigated included titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V, aluminium alloy 7475-T7351, nickel alloy Nimonic C 263, wear-resistant Hadfield steel, copper alloy Ampcoloy 35, pure molybdenum 99.99, and high-entropy alloy FeCoCrMnNi. The highest MRR values were achieved for 7475-T7351. Nimonic, Hadfield steel, Ampcoloy, and molybdenum materials reached similar MRR values and the lowest MRR values were studied for Ti-6Al-4V and FeCoCrMnNi materials. Cracks were visible on all samples of Ti-6Al-4V, molybdenum and aluminium alloy 7475-T7351, while burnt cavities were found in Hadfield steel.

[nazev_en] => Comparison of MRR of Different WEDM-Machined Materials
[popis_en] => Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is an unconventional machining technology which is widely used in all industries.

[popis_en] => Today, industry is digitizing and automating most processes. One of the areas of digitalization is also
diagnostics of various technical systems, especially machines. The present paper introduces the possibility of applying the CMS analysis software X -Tools from Siemens. It has been used at our workplace for vibration monitoring, specifically the article describes the determination of a real fault on a damaged bearing.
The text also includes an outline of other modern approaches in the diagnosis of technical systems, namely the use of risk theory. It is an example of a possible solution, specifically in the diagnosis of bearing faults.

[nazev_orig] => Soft computing methods in the solution of an inverse heat transfer problem with phase change: A comparative study

[popis] => Inverse heat transfer problems are ill-posed problems and their solution is challenging. Conventional (hard computing) solution methods were developed for this purpose in the past, but they are not well applicable in cases including phase change, which contain strong non-linearity and bring additional computational difficulties. Soft computing methods, which currently experience very rapid development, are a promising tool for the solution of such problems. This paper addresses an inverse heat transfer problem with phase change, in which the boundary heat flux is estimated. Four methods based on distinct mathematical principles are applied to this problem and thoroughly compared. These methods include a conventional Levenberg-Marquardt method (LMM), a predictive fuzzy logic (PFL)-based method, a population-based meta-heuristic method called LSHADE (a state-of-the-art differential evolution variant), and a recently developed surrogate-assisted method coupled with differential evolution, referred to as LSADE method. Furthermore, a reformulation of the problem was developed, utilising a dimension reduction scheme and a decomposition scheme that led to sub-problems with different time frames. This reformulation brought extensive computational improvements. Results of the comparison of the methods then showed that the LMM and the PFL behave well in case without phase change but their performance deteriorates substantially in case with phase change. The LSHADE and the LSADE showed superior performance in the solution of the inverse problem with the phase change. Moreover, their performance was rather stable and insensitive to the location of the temperature sensor, which was the source of data for the estimation.

[nazev_en] => Soft computing methods in the solution of an inverse heat transfer problem with phase change: A comparative study
[popis_en] => Inverse heat transfer problems are ill-posed problems and their solution is challenging.

This can be attributed to the rise of technologies such as autonomous robotics and physics-based simulation, along with the utilization of artificial intelligence techniques. The use of these technologies may be limited due to a focus on a specific type of robotic manipulator and a particular solved task, which can hinder modularity and reproducibility in future expansions. This paper presents a method for planning motion across a wide range of robotic structures using deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms to solve the problem of reaching a static or random target within a pre-defined configuration space. The paper addresses the challenge of motion planning in environments under a variety of conditions, including environments with and without the presence of collision objects. It highlights the versatility and potential for future expansion through the integration of OpenAI Gym and the PyBullet physics-based simulator.

[popis] => Poly lactic acid (PLA) as one of the shape memory polymers has extensively been used as the material in the 3D printing by fused deposition modeling process. In this study, we introduced the forced-air cooling speed as new control parameter in the fabrication process. A commercial material extrusion printer was retrofitted with a control module of forced-air cooling system. The shape memory effects of the PLA printed in different cooling speeds from 0-5 m s-1 were first measured by submerging the printed coupon specimens into water bath at recovery temperature. It is found that the changes in dimensions were mainly anisotropic and dependent of the raster angle in printing, in addition to the controlled cooling speed. The shape memory strains were roughly in linear trend with the magnitude of cooling air speed. In other words, the shape memory effect of the PLA can be easily controlled by the cooling air speed in fabrication. X-ray diffraction measurement on the specimens before and after recovery treatment confirmed the shape memory effect was related to the partial crystallization of molecular structure. Moreover, the different cooling air speeds also induced different thermal stresses in the printed specimens which manifest its important role in the total shape memory strain. Finally, the proposed theoretical beam formulation for the recovery bending deflection was shown to have good prediction accuracy comparing with experimental measurements.

This paper presents the study of the dynamics of such a system in a wide range of excitation parameters, assuming at the same time the possibility of a cyclical and smooth change of the potential function. We have designed a system that allows to obtain a wide spectrum of potential characteristics, from a single well to a three -well system, and we have analyzed its effectiveness. Next, we checked the influence of parameters characterizing the change of potential using bifurcation diagrams and their comparison with the effective voltage values. We also analyzed the behavior of the system in chaotic and periodic motion zones and presented selected sections of Poincare and Fourier amplitude -frequency spectra of chaotic solutions. The last element of the analysis was the impact of cyclic potential change on coexisting solutions. We have shown that the best effectiveness is achieved when the frequency of the external load is equal to the resonant frequency of the flexible cantilever beam and the change of potential is limited to extreme positions.

[nazev_en] => Vibration energy harvesting system with cyclically time-varying potential barrier
[popis_en] => Nonlinear kinetic energy harvesters are becoming more and more popular as well as advanced and efficient.

[popis] => The unconventional Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) technology represents a vital manufacturing technology in different industrial branches, such as aviation, military, automotive or energy industry. The WEDM energy demand is considerable and it is, therefore, desirable to reduce the machining time by optimising the machining parameters. In the study, the chosen parameters were Pulse off time, Gap voltage, Discharge current, Pulse on time, and Wire feed. Another factor we investigated in our Box-Behnken design of experiment was the workpiece thickness. The cutting speed, topography, and surface morphology were analysed in the samples produced for the design of experiment. This investigation was carried out using electron microscopy. The chemical composition of individual spots was analysed as well. The samples were found not to have significant differences in the appearance of craters on the edge and in the centre. Similarly, there was no significant difference observed between thicknesses and different parameter settings. The surfaces also show a large number of small bubbles. There were, however, no cracks or other defects found, even in the cross-sections of all samples.
